It’s your mountain to climb. How are you going to succeed!

Mountain how to succeed

Moutain to conquer. How to succeed

How to succeed despite all the mountains you may have to climb!!

I was  in church a couple of years ago and the pastor told a great motivational story.  I thought I would share with you.

There was a group of youngsters climbing a mountain for charity.  None of them had met before and were from various locations around the country.  They were aged between 18-25 years old.   They all had trained extremely hard and were all willing and able to succeed.

All of the youngsters started up the mountain working towards the summit, its was hard work and several gruelling hours to the summit.

Three quarters of the way up they were making good progress and looking forward to the end of the climb.

The people on the ground became concerned as there was a severe weather warning.  They called the walking party on the radio and informed them that they were to descend the mountain a.s.a.p.

All the youngsters started to descend rapidly all except one…….??

How to succeed even though……

The others called to him as he further ahead than the rest, telling him to come down it was dangerous.  He didn’t seem to take any notice and the others had no choice but to leave him to carry on his own.  They informed the base that one of the party had refused to come down.

The young man carried on regardless and reached the summit.  The weather cleared up and it became a lovely sunny day.  Whilst the young man made his way down the mountain his father had arrived worried to death.

The other people in the walking party explained to the anxious father about his determination to carry on to the summit despite  the impending danger.

“Well”,  said his father as the young man came into sight coming down the mountain.  “The reason he didn’t come down the mountain, is because he is deaf and dumb”!  He also had learning difficulties and he had in his head that he was going to the summit and no-one was going to stop him.

How to succeed, pretend to be deaf???

Now what mountains do you need to conquer?  What have you always wanted and never been quite been able to make it?  Rest assured as soon as you get near the summit, someone will try to knock you off focus.  They will try and make you come down from your mountain.

The best thing you can do is pretend that your deaf. Close your ears to all those who are trying to tell you of the dangers and the storm coming.

There will always be people who know more about what your trying to achieve than you do.  Once you have your goal set in your head don’t allow anyone or anything to knock you off track.

What are your mountains you need to climb????  Go on and just do it don’t listen to anyone!

When I read the story of ‘the mountain’, it reminded me of a song I learned at school seventy years ago. I never forgot it and it has often helped throughout those years, to keep climbing the mountain.

Let me share it with you:

If at first you don’t succeed
    Try, try, try again.
That’s the way to take the lead.
    Try, try again.
When troubles come and things look black,
Put them quickly in a sack,
Then hoist the sack upon your back,
    And try, try, try again!!!!!

It also reminds me of Winston Churchill who told the pupils of a school that they should ” Never give up, never, never, give up, never, never, never give up. If you want to succeed.”

    1. Thanks Pat, that was lovely. Im glad this post bought back some good memories.

Such an inspiring story! Thanks for sharing it with us. I agree that at times we all need to turn deaf and dumb to the entire world. There are too many people trying to find fault in our goals or intentions. We need to ignore these people if we are serious about our goals.

    1. Thanks Barbara,

      I’m glad you liked it!

    2. Thanks Barbara, I had to learn to ignore everyone else’s opinion to get to this point or I would never have got this far. It is hard but sometimes other people aren’t working for your best interest.

Not losing focus is vital to achieving goals. People will try to dissuade us, think that our goal is impossible to achieve. But if we have faith in our goals we should be able to achieve them also. Your post is very inspiring.

Our heart knows what is right for us. But many times we do not listen to it and go by what others say. Most people in this world cannot think beyond the hurdles of life. We need to think beyond our problems like the boy in your story.
